Soylent - A Health Conscious Meal Replacement Drink

I came to know about Soylent while studying about marketing technologists and exponential organizations who are inventing, creating and developing scalable products with the help of technology. Soylent uses science and technology to solve challenging issues in our food system and to provide access to quality nutrition to people around the world. Their mission is to “Expand access to quality nutrition through food system innovation”.

Soylent was invented by a software engineer Rob Rhinehart along with his colleagues who were running startup companies in 2013, based in California. They were tired of eating unhealthy and unenjoyable frozen food with associated cost of purchasing and preparing. So, they started an experiment in their kitchen in search of a simpler, more efficient food source and ended up in developing Soylent. Rob shared the experience on his blog and the story went viral. That was the point when they realized that the experiment has not only solved their problem but of thousands of people around the world.

The idea raised about $1.5 million in pre-orders through a crowd-sourcing campaign and was able to get $20 million amount through venture capital financing. Rosa Foods began its operations in April 2014. Versions 1.0 to 1.3 need to mix water as well as oil in the powder formula, however, version 1.4 (first introduced in February 2015) to 1.8 had to just add water to consume it. In September 2015, they launched a ready-to-drink liquid version in 400 ml bottle and named in version 2.0. (Source: Wikipedia)

 Soylent Café
The company has introduced third category with the name of Soylent Café which combines the nutrition of Soylent drink with stimulating effects of caffeine. It also has 3 flavours including Café Vanilla, Café Chai and Café Coffiest. The nutritional facts are almost same as of Soylent Drink with little more saturated fat due to the addition of natural coffee flavour in ingredients.

Soylent Café

Soylent is available online and on 7-Eleven stores in USA and Canada only. However, they have plans to launch it in Europe in near future. I think it is a must try product especially in busy days when you cannot afford to take time out for proper meals. Just grab a bottle to have a full meal within minutes.
